Highlands council grapples with large budget increase

Council members had differing opinions of how to move forward with the Lanark Highlands Township budget, after the 20-per-cent increase in the first draft became a 10.9-per-cent increase, plus an additional $156 waste fee that would still work out to the same cost to taxpayers in the end.

As Lanark Highlands Township accepts applications for a new chief administrative officer, council will now have to look for a new clerk as well.

OPP investigating assault in Perth

The Lanark County OPP is investigating an assault in downtown Perth. Last Wednesday, April 24 at about 8 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot on Gore Street where two people had been shot by a pellet gun. The culprit then fled the scene.

New cabins will require new zoning

Seven proposed cabins on a property on Taylor Lake would be for personal use before eventually transitioning into a tourism/commercial use.
